Meet the Artist - Zeeshan Farooq
Zeeshan Farooq is a product management leader and Islamic calligraphy artist based in Chicago, blending technology, design, and cultural expression through his creative work. Originally from Karachi, Pakistan, he immigrated to the United States in 2001 to pursue studies in computer science and build a career in software development. He earned his Bachelor in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Chicago. After working as a software engineer for almost a decade, he pursued his MBA from the Booth School of Business in University of Chicago, and transitioned into the field of digital product management.
Alongside his successful professional path in digital technology, Farooq maintained a lifelong connection to Islamic calligraphy, a traditional art form rooted in the sacred verses of the Quran. While living in Pakistan, his exposure to formal art training was limited, and his early work remained primarily personal and informal. After moving to the United States, he found a greater opportunity to explore and expand his artistic voice.
In 2004, he launched CreationZ Art, an early digital platform for his creative work. By 2008, he began pursuing calligraphy more seriously, starting with commissioned wedding invitations before transitioning into custom Arabic and Islamic calligraphy as a focused artistic practice. His first public exhibition took place in 2011 at an Islamic convention in Illinois, where his work was well-received and marked a turning point in his artistic journey.
Farooq’s work reflects a modern interpretation of Islamic art, often incorporating vibrant colors, contemporary design elements, and aesthetic alignment with modern interior spaces. His pieces contrast with traditional black-and-gold styles commonly found in homes of earlier generations, appealing especially to younger audiences seeking updated visual expressions of faith and identity.
His broader creative vision through CreationZ Art is a brand that transforms personal identity, faith, and meaningful stories into timeless art. His creative process begins with a deep understanding of the client’s vision, evolves through iterative design mockups, aligns on the final concept, and culminates in a masterpiece. Although his inspirations are deeply rooted in Islamic art, his belief in art as a universal language draws clients from diverse faiths, cultures, and backgrounds. He takes immense pride in creating meaningful pieces that transcend those differences.
His work has been selected for display in several prestigious art exhibitions across the United States, most notably at the Chicago History Museum, Newberry Public Library, and Skokie Public Library
In late 2024, Zeeshan took a bold leap of faith, leaving behind a successful corporate career to pursue his passion as a full-time artist. Drawing on his extensive experience as a technology product leader, he is uniquely positioned to build CreationZ Art into a sustainable business driven by lifelong creativity and purpose.
